University of Haven provides a limited number of Provost’s Assistantships and Dean’s Scholarships to various academic departments within each College and all full-time domestic and international master’s students interested in a Provost’s Assistantship or a Dean’s Scholarship must complete their entire application packet for admission by the deadline for consideration.

Provost’s Assistantship

This highly competitive program grants two types of work opportunities for new full-time domestic and international master’s students enrolling at the University of New Haven. Their highest achieving incoming graduate students are offered a Provost’s Assistantship. Students selected for a position in this program will work up to 15-20 hours per week (550 total hours per academic year) for an academic department. In return, students will receive:

• An experiential learning and work opportunity for the entirety of their graduate program.
• 75% tuition assistance
• An hourly wage

Types of Provost’s Assistantships

Research Assistantship

Students will aid in faculty-mentored research, conduct their own research, or conduct research for an administrative office related to the students’ field of study.

Teaching Assistantship

Responsibilities may include grading papers, preparing and teaching labs, and tutoring undergraduate students. Duties will vary by department.

For consideration of a Provost’s Assistantship, students must submit their completed application packet by the following deadlines. For the Fall semester, the Priority One deadline is March 1st and the Priority Two deadline is April 1st. For the Spring semester, the Priority One deadline is October 1st, and Priority Two deadline is November 1st.

Dean’s Scholarship Program

Full-time domestic and international master’s students are selected for a Dean’s Scholarship after a careful review of a new candidate’s application material on the basis of academic merit. The program provides up to 50% tuition assistance during their enrollment at the University of New Haven.

For consideration of a Dean’s Scholarship, students must submit their completed application packet by the following deadlines. For the Fall semester, the Priority One deadline is March 30th, and the Priority Two deadline is May 1st. For the Spring semester, the Priority One deadline is October 15th and the Priority Two deadline is November 15th. After these deadlines, Dean’s Scholarships may be awarded if funding is still available.

Master’s Application Checklist

• Online application
• $50 non-refundable application fee
• Transcripts (in English) from all colleges or universities attended. Transcripts must be submitted in sealed envelopes and mailed directly to the admissions office. If official documents are unavailable, unofficial documents can be uploaded through the online application system for initial review only. However, all official documents must be received before the start of classes for the admitted semester.

  • Students applying for a graduate degree program in our Tagliatela College of Engineering must meet one of the following minimum scores:
    • TOEFL: 75
    • IELTS: 6.0
    • PTE: 50
    • Duolingo: 105
  • Students applying for a graduate degree program in our College of Arts & Sciences, School of Health Sciences, Henry C. Lee College or our Pompea College of Business must meet one of the following minimum scores:
    • TOEFL: 80 (100 required for M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology)
    • IELTS: 6.5
    • PTE: 53
    • Duolingo: 105
  • Students applying for a doctorate or Ph.D. program must meet one of the following minimum scores:
    • TOEFL: 100
    • IELTS: 7.5
    • PTE: 68
    • Duolingo: 125
  • Alternatively, a student can complete the University of New Haven’s Academic English Preparatory Program.
• Certain majors require GRE and/or GMAT test scores. GRE School Code: 3663; GMAT school code: P1X-DS-94. 
• Applicants from India must submit detailed semester-by-semester mark sheets/academic transcripts. CONSOLIDATED mark sheets alone are not acceptable.
• Students who have received a 3-year bachelor degree from India will be required to submit a course-by-course evaluation from World Education Services (WES) to show their degree is equivalent to a U.S. bachelor’s degree. The evaluation can be submitted electronically to the University of New Haven. Applicants from India with 3-year degrees may submit an additional year of a Master’s degree or a one-year Post Graduate Diploma from a recognized university in order to be considered for admissions to a master’s program.
• All applicants will need to submit a WES evaluation for the M.S. in Nutrition Sciences.
